We've eaten here for years. It's been hit or miss. Tonight we got to meals. Oxtails and fish. The size of the corn bread was unacceptable. Definitely not the normal portion size. The yams had no flavor. Fish was awesome as usual.

Everything about this place from the food, to the service to the atmosphere is top tier! The cabbage & catfish is sooo amazing. The shrimp is my fave as well. Definitely the best soul food place in town!

I'd been here a couple years ago can't believe i didn't review it then.
This is DAMM GOOD FOOD. I was driving cross country and had to stop again in bakersfield specifically for Mom's House. I'd never seen neckbones on the menu at a southern restaurant despite growing up eating them in the south. They were SO GOOD! Super tender and flavorful without being too salty. The cabbage was cooked with a touch of crunch and savory with hint of sweetness. Purple Kool aid was ON POINT, and not overly sweet. They even gave us neckbone juice for our rice.
This place is IT and it was packed with people so you know it's good eating! I hope they stay in business for many many years!

First time trying this place, and it was pretty good. Got chicken and waffle and side of mac and cheese. Chicken was juicy and tasty. Waffle was real good. Mac and cheese was delicious, i can see why it won an award. This place fills up fast too. Would definitely recommend this place for breakfast.

Im sorry but the enchiladas just felt like hamburger helper slop, the Mac and cheese was a bit gritty and the best tasting thing was the sweet tea. I feel bad saying all this cuz the workers were so nice but the enchiladas need some work. Instead of keeping them as a Friday special, let's consider keeping them off da menu or going through a little reform. I'm not trying to dogpile on this place though because the other options definitely seemed way better and this review is solely based on what I have ordered PERSONALLY. But from this experience I would advise against the enchiladas at least until they figure out another little recipe, get some sour cream, or add a lil something else lol. My friend got a chicken sandwich and that was actually fantastic so believe it or not, I'd be coming back. But it took every last bit of my heart and soul not to dispute after reviewing this. Food is really good BUT my catfish dinner taste like damn tilapia..... Catfish has such a distinct taste and I'm not getting it from this plate. I understand that distributors have been known to sell a lower grade of fish to restaurants and passing them off as a different fish. This was mostly done with red snapper. I hope this is the case because if its the restaurant knowingly passing tilapia off as catfish that would be really stupid.

Also, they charge 1.50 to put your sides in individual containers and don't even fill up the container.

The reason for charging extra for individual containers is because you're supposed to get more than what comes in the to go container... not cool

This so sucks!

Overall definitely 4 stars. Not perfection but pretty damn good with consistency. My latest plate of snapper actually tasted like snapper, though I had to ask, i got more sides for paying that extra 1.50.

I'm a customer but will talk smack if I have to 🙃

The wait was long but the food was well worth the wait. As a man in the waiting room said, “if it’s a long wait, the food will be great.” The fish and chicken had the taste of fresh oil, something that should be appreciated from a restaurant dealing with a lot of fried food. I would rather wait a little longer for fresh oil than have my food ruined by bad oil. Compliments to the chef and cooks! The seasoning was amazing. Will definitely be making this a new regular for my family.

I can't believe this place flew under the radar for me. I am always skeptical of places like this, but as soon as I took a bite of the rice with gravy, the catfish and other foods, I felt so excited to have delicious tasting southern comfort food. The cornbread tastes like how my great grandmother's before she passed. Now any time I come home from the army, this is the place my family and friends will meet at.
